16th CHITEC to kick off in May

The 16th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) will kick off at the China International Exhibition Center (Old Center) in Beijing on May 21, 2013.

 

Themed "Innovation-driven restructuring and development," this year's CHITEC will highlight the strengths of independent innovation in enterprises' industrial transformation to achieve sustainable development.

The event will feature the following aspects: major S&T achievements obtained by China in areas such as high-end manufacturing, modern agriculture and other emerging industries with strategic significance; outstanding breakthroughs and core technologies of China's SOEs and the multi-national corporations in key S&T fields; major S&T projects undertaken and progress made by the science parks, development zones, research centers and higher educational institutions across the country; and the latest technologies and products which are benefiting people's lives in such areas as food safety, environmental protection and city management.

CHITEC, held every May in China's capital city, is known as a major national hi-tech expo that promotes scientific and technological exchange and cooperation between China and foreign nations.

Initiated in 1998, the event has become a landmark platform displaying state-of-the-art S&T achievements and proactive industrial ideas. Information on industrial policies and investment environment is also released to help promote international and regional collaboration in the fields of trade and technology.

Every year, CHITEC, which integrates top-notch exhibitions, forums, symposiums and trade talks, attracts a large number of well-known exhibitors as well as hundreds of thousands of visitors. This year's CHITEC, with a total exhibition area of nearly 800,000 square meters, is expected to draw more than 1,800 exhibitors and 300,000 participants.

The exhibitions are mainly focused on the following categories: electronics information and communication, bio-engineering and pharmaceuticals, environmental protection, new material and new energy, modern agriculture and green technology, and modern engineering and manufacturing technology.

Industrial giants, businessmen, honorable guest speakers and well-established economists from home and abroad will gather to discuss the hottest issues and latest development trends in the hi-tech industry.

The event, approved by China's State Council, is organized by the Beijing Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and is co-sponsored by China's Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), State Intellectual Property Office and the Beijing Municipal Government.
