Young Chinese artist Zhang Fan will present his new art works at Beijing's Today Art Museum from Nov. 4 to 10.

The exhibition "Style: Zhang Fan, 2013" has been arranged by Wu Hongliang, curator of the Art Museum of the Beijing Fine Art Academy and a well-known critic in Chinese art circles.

Wu described Zhang as a rational artist who uses his oil paintings to convey Chinese ideas. He added how Zhang this time around established a framework which showcases his interest in brush-and-ink painting, his respect for tradition as well as his keen eye for detail.

Whether as a student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts or as a professional artist in pursuit of a master's in print-making, in Wu's view, Zhang only cares about one thing: is there any style in my painting?

His pursuit of simplicity expresses itself in three parts of this solo exhibition: "Hand-scroll of water," "Self-narratives" and "Picking from reclusion," representing his modest and intrapersonal attitude, Wu said.
