Beijing will build an international medical center at the International Medical Service Zone in Tongzhou District in 2014, Xinhua reported.

The medical center, as the core project of the medical service zone, will adopt the world's leading medical service format to offer more effective services to various groups and patients suffering from rare and critical diseases.

Physicians and medical experts from well-established public hospitals in the city and international medical institutions will be recruited to conduct consultations and operations through the multiple-site medical practices.

The medical service zone, located in Lucheng Town, has a planned area of 15 square kilometers. It was launched in 2012 with the aim to build an international medical and healthcare industrial hub integrating world-class medical facilities, education institutions, medical research personnel, rehabilitation and nursing homes and health management facilities.

The zone represents a new model for medical reform by integrating social and foreign investment. So far, seven projects have been established there.
