Both the third Animation Beijing and the twelfth China International Internet Culture Expo opened in Beijing on October 17, 2014. As many as 175 exhibitors participated in the opening ceremony, including some well-known network companies.

The combination of the two big events created a multi-layered platform for industrial exchange, product launches, high-tech displays and property transactions for the animation and gaming industry.

As a top animation and gaming show, the exhibition focused on participatory and interactive entertainment. There was a wide variety of events and activities at the exhibition, including displays of interactive entertainment products, digital and network innovation technology products and exhibitions of animation and game achievements. The China Cosplay Cartoon Competition and the Beijing College Students' Creative APP Competition were also held. The exhibition featured some additional interactive activities, such as the animation and game carnival and the animation interactive experience. Forums on Big Data in Internet Culture and on Animation and Game Industry Development were also held. Organizers invited many renowned experts from both China and from abroad to hold talks on original animation and game development, derivative product development, channel distribution, integrated operating platforms, media advertising and financial investment. Several negotiations and transactions were also scheduled to take place during the exhibition.

Dozens of well-known online game companies like Tencent, Perfect World, Shanda and Giant exhibited their gaming masterpieces. Also, exquisite displays of animation works, virtual reality technology, 3-D games, a 3-D motion capture system and stereo photography were shown by China Animation Group and Tudou. Visitors could not only sate themselves with this visual feast, they could also experience an array of exciting games and participate in cosplay, electronic competitions or board games.

The animation and game industry carries a great deal of weight among the nine creative industries with a presence in Beijing. In 2013, online game industry companies in the capital region had an output value of 22 billion yuan, accounting for a quarter of the whole country's output in that industry. With an annual growth rate of 30 percent and exports of up to 1.5 billion yuan, it's now second to none in China.
